Digital radiography is one of the most important new advances that our profession has seen in quite some time. The capability to reduce the exposure of radiation to the patient by 80% while increasing our diagnostic proficiency has astounding implications. With digital radiography, we are also eliminating harsh chemicals and other waste associated with traditional radiography that is an added benefit to our environment.
Digital radiography systems reduce radiation exposure to patients by 80 percent compared to film-based systems. This allows our office to maintain as low as reasonably achievable radiation, which in turn will minimize radiation exposure to both patient and operator. Unlike film, digital X-ray images can also be enhanced to assist in better diagnostic precision. The software used along with digital imaging will allow enhancements that optimize the image but does not alter the data. The images can also be saved on the computer making for a more “green” environmental office as well.
